MANSON, Louisa - Putnam

Crawfordsville – Mrs. Louisa E. Manson, 94, a past national president of the Ladies of the GAR died in her home, 406 West Market Street at 6:45 p.m. Monday. She had been in failing health several months. Mrs. Manson was widely known through the state and nation for her activities in women’s organizations. She was national head of Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic in 1927. She was the last surviving charter member of Athens Chapter No 97, Order of Eastern Star and was a past worthy patron of the local chapter and past Grand Esther of the state OES. Mrs. Manson was the widow of Mahlon F. Manson, for many years prominent in the business life of Crawfordsville. She died in the home built by her father-in-law, Gen. Mahlon D. Manson, Civil War officer and former Lt. Governor and Auditor of the state and US Congressman. Mrs. Manson was born at Brick Chapel in Putnam County. The family moved to Greencastle where she was married in 1884. The couple moved to Crawfordsville immediately after their marriage. Mr. Manson died in 1931. She was a member of the First Methodist Church. Survivors are three sons: J. Byron Manson, New Albany; Paul B. Manson, LaPorte; and George D. Manson, Crawfordsville. - kbz
